Boosting IVF Success with Acupuncture
Undergoing IVF can be emotionally, physically, and mentally intense. Many couples search for ways to improve their odds, reduce stress, and support their bodies through each stage. Acupuncture is one such complementary therapy gaining traction.
What the evidence suggests:
When to begin: Starting before stimulation (COH), and similarly before embryo transfer in FET cycles, tends to help. If possible, begin acupuncture a few weeks (or even months) ahead of IVF cycle start to prepare the body.
During ovarian stimulation for IVF
Acupuncture during this stage can help support egg quality, promote even follicle development, bring a sense of emotional and nervous system balance, as well as help treat any other discomfort.
Treatment Frequency: 1-3 times per week
Throughout the stimulation phase of IVF, acupuncture is used to nourish and improve circulation to the ovaries, promoting the development of healthy, mature eggs. As you near the end of this phase, treatments can also help harmonize follicle growth, supporting a more balanced response between both ovaries.
Acupuncture before/after embryo transfer:
Acupuncture can help increase blood flow and improve the quality of the uterine lining to increase the chances of a successful implantation
Recommended Frequency:
Roughly one week before transfer
Within 24 hours following the transfer
Up to 1 week after transfer
Acupuncture can help support implantation and calm the nervous system, which is also crucial for implantation.
Along with acupuncture, your practitioner can provide lifestyle and diet recommendations to further support your journey with IVF.
