Why I Opened House of Shen: Bringing Chinese Medicine Home

House of Shen is turning one soon, and I wanted to take a moment to share what this first year has taught me about growth, creation, and holding space for healing.

I opened House of Shen with a simple vision: to bring the wisdom of Chinese Medicine into modern homes and hearts. After years of studying and witnessing the deep transformations that occur through this medicine, I wanted to create a space where healing feels approachable, rooted, and personal..a true house for the Shen, or spirit.

I actually developed the LLC while I still had a year left of schooling. Creating House of Shen, even just on paper, felt like planting a seed or an intention to bring this vision to life. I wanted the practice to unfold naturally, to let it guide me. From the very beginning, I’ve trusted that House of Shen would grow into something bigger than I could ever plan or predict.

When I graduated and began building my practice, it quickly became a mirror. Amidst all the excitement, I was faced with parts of myself I hadn’t fully met…my fear of failure, my relationship with finances, my ability to follow through. Through it all, I discovered my own strength and resilience. I learned how to show up for my vision, even when things felt uncertain, and to practice gratitude for every lesson along the way.

House of Shen deepened my faith in something greater than myself. It taught me how to surrender when things were out of my control and to trust that if this is truly my path, I will always find my way forward. Over time, I’ve shifted my focus from simply filling my schedule to aligning with patients who truly resonate with this space, those who are ready to heal, learn, and grow together.

I built this practice to feel like home and a place where patients don’t just come for acupuncture, but for education, empowerment, and a reminder that healing is a lifelong relationship with themselves.

In Chinese Medicine, Shen refers to the spirit, our inner light, awareness, and consciousness. House of Shen was born to help people reconnect with that part of themselves and to feel seen, supported, and reminded of their own capacity to heal.

There is something fun in the works for HOS’s first birthday so stay tuned!
